At Lovo, the well-being of our hens is a responsibility our farmer-owners take to heart every single day.
Our egg farmers place the utmost importance on the well-being of their flocks. Their farming practices are guided by a rigorous national animal care program, built on the highest standards recognized across the country. This commitment is reflected in their compliance with the Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Pullets and Laying Hens.

Housing systems
Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to eggs. Hen housing, feed, nutritional properties, colour, size: there’s enough variety to suit them all.
In Canada, as at Lovo, there are four main housing systems for laying hens.
Conventional housing, transitioning to alternative housing systems
Hens live in small groups, with constant access to fresh water and feed.
Enriched housing
Hens live in an environment that offers greater freedom of movement. They have unrestricted access to food and water, as well as nesting areas, perches, and dedicated spaces for scratching.
Free-run housing
Hens have plenty of room to roam throughout the barn. Dedicated nesting areas are provided for egg laying, and fresh water and feed are available at all times. Some barns are also equipped with multi-tier aviaries, allowing hens to make use of the vertical space.
Free-range housing
Hens enjoy the same benefits as in free-run housing, with the added benefit of outdoor access when the weather and conditions allow.
